Kat’s “tag line” is I Do Pretty, and when you see her work you will see why. Kat’s life-long fascination with “pretty rocks” have inspired her to design necklackes, brooches, pins and earrings in natural gemstones, minerals, and other elements, all using the medium of wire crochet. Each design evokes a person, a place, a feeling, or even a favourite song.

For this year’s AITA 30th anniversary virtual show, Kat has created some very special new designs – Victoria, Don’t It Make my Brown Eyes Blue, and My Brown-eyed Girl – as well as new versions of some of your favourites such as Pretty in PInk and Glammy Mammy. Each design has its own story and inspiration. Victoria was inspired by a friend’s lucky find of a wonderful collection of gorgeous antique black glass buttons.Pressed glass buttons gained popularity during the Victorian era, when the Queen wore black for 40 years after the death of her husband Prince Albert. Of course, the Queen’s buttons were fashioned from expensive jet, so talented button makers from Bohemia created these exquisitely- detailed buttons for us common folk. These buttons are a treasure – each is unique in design. Kat has carefully selected and mixed them with shiny hematite to create a dramatic and delicate black and silver collar.
