Chris Drake has always liked art but it took off in high school where he participated in his first art show, sold a painting and inspired his teacher, Sarah Jaynes, to hold a workshop for students with cognitive challenges like him, thus starting the Without Exception program.  Chris participated in all 10 workshops.

Chris regularly submits to the Jane Cameron Award, receiving Honorable Mention in 2008 and 2009 and winning the award in 2010. His work has been on display at the Carleton Place and Beckwith Museum, the Lanark Community Programs office, Tempations and Surrounding Memories in Carleton Place.  He has also shown his work at a small restaurant in Hintonburg.

Since leaving school, Chris had helped found the Carleton Place Social Rec Program where he and other like him learn life skills, do work placements and do art and much more. He inspired his brother to start Stay Smiling Partners, a  website designed to support artists with cognitive challenges and help them earn income from their art.
